In this class, we will explore and explain the wonderful and often baffling world of guitar chords. Why do some chords seem to follow each other smoothly in a song, and other chords just clash? We will learn the code to unlock the formula that a chord’s name tells us. You may be comfortable with major, minor and seventh chords, but the Bm7b5 or the G6/9 are somewhat foreign. But they are harder to say than they are to play. If you feel you’ve been spinning your wheels lately, learning a few new chords or learning slightly altered chords is a great way to spice up your playing. We’ll learn some easy-to-finger authentic swing chords that deliver that cool sound for Bob Wills’s and Hank Williams’s songs. We’ll learn the best approach to playing bluegrass rhythm the right way. Exploring circle progressions for songwriting or arranging your own take on popular songs. All this and more with hands-on learning and take-home handouts.
