GLAMA organized and sponsored the Cooper’s Glen Music Festival, which includes hands-on workshops and concerts by local and nationally known artists, on an annual basis from 2002 to 2018.
After the 2018 festival, the GLAMA Board recognized that there were opportunities to enhance the audience experience and the sustainability of the event, as well as the association. Board members considered rising costs, as well as winter-associated weather and public health concerns that tend to impact attendance at a February event in Michigan. They also recognized there was a real need to recruit additional board and committee members.
In the interest of addressing these understandings, Board members decided to continue monthly activities in 2019 and to put the Cooper’s Glen Music Festival on hold in order to: research the best locations and dates for such events; explore options for creating additional activities; and recruit individuals to serve as GLAMA board and committee members.
Monthly GLAMA activities are thriving, and recruitment efforts have been effective, though more volunteers are always needed and welcome. As Board members did this work and reviewed options for venues, dates and activities, the plan for the GLAMAVERSARY Concert and Workshops emerged as a great way to celebrate GLAMA’s 20th year and fulfill its purposes and mission.
In looking to the future, GLAMA Board members will consider and review all of GLAMA’s efforts and activities in 2019 to determine activities in 2020 and beyond, including the possibility of resuming the Cooper’s Glen Music Festival.
